New feature: Scan from your region of choice

Detectify is a crowdsource-powered web vulnerability scanner and a technology partner of Amazon Web Services (AWS). We trust in the cloud and run our operations on AWS servers in Ireland, keeping the data we process within the European Union (EU). 

As we expand our business, we look to our customers to give input on our product roadmap to ensure we continue to develop a valuable product experience. Last year, we introduced the AWS Route 53 connector which made monitoring changes in the DNS records easier for our AWS-hosted users.

Today we’re announcing the new feature, “Scan from Regional IP”, which means users can choose to start scans in an AWS data center outside of Europe. Currently, Detectify operates on AWS servers in Ireland. 

Some users voiced the need for scan data to be processed in their home region, for example, US-hosted web apps scanned within the US data centers, which is why we’ve developed this feature. 

Same process, new regional choices

Based on user feedback, we’ve added options to scan from us-east-1 (North Virginia) and ap-south-1 (Mumbai) in this release.

Once you’ve selected the AWS center of your choice, the process for starting scans remains the same. When you start a scan, it will spin up a new virtual machine at AWS in the chosen region.

Security-wise, it is one way of ensuring information does not leak between customers. We would not be able to buy a new physical server each time a new scan starts, but we can do this virtually.

How does it work?

The “Scan from Regional IP” is available for Enterprise accounts. Users can select a default region for all assets under the same team and then set different scan regions for specific web assets.

Even if you choose to maintain Ireland as the default data center, you can have confidence that our online vulnerability scanner will securely handle your web app data.
